On December 3, 2024, Rheinmetall Landsysteme secured a CZK 4 billion (EUR 160 million) contract to supply 14 additional Leopard 2 A4 main battle tanks to the Czech Republic by 2026. The tanks will be overhauled and partially modified to meet Czech needs, potentially sourced from Switzerland’s military stock. This builds on a previous transfer of 25 Swiss Leopard 2 A4s delivered earlier in 2024.
The acquisition is part of the Czech Republic’s effort to replace aging Russian MBTs and modernize its armored fleet, backed by German funding. With the latest order, the total number of Leopard 2 A4s in Czech service is set to reach 42 by 2026.
