Kawasaki Heavy Industries has been awarded a contract by Japan to produce 17 CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters for the military. The deal allocates 71.4 billion yen ($458.1 million) for five CH-47J units, which are specifically tailored for Japan, and 161.1 billion yen ($1 billion) for 12 CH-47JA extended-range models.
