The US Navy has awarded General Dynamics a $12.4-billion contract for the construction of two additional Virginia-class submarines. Covering the Block V variants SSN-812 (USS Baltimore) and SSN-813 (USS Atlanta), the contract was previously projected for 2024. It also includes investments to scale up operations at the company’s shipyards through productivity upgrades and expanded staffing.
