The US Missile Defense Agency has received its first upgraded AN/TPY-2 radar fitted with Gallium Nitride (GaN) tech, boosting its ability to detect and track ballistic missiles.
Made by Raytheon, the new radar offers greater range, sensitivity, and defense against hypersonic weapons. It uses next-gen CX6 software for sharper target identification and protection from electronic attacks. Operating in the X-band, it helps distinguish threats from non-threats with high accuracy.
This marks the 13th AN/TPY-2 radar delivered to the US, but the first with GaN enhancements.
