China is developing a new artificial intelligence system for high-speed torpedoes that can differentiate actual submarines from fakes.
The technology, a collaboration between the PLA Navy Armament Department and China State Shipbuilding Corporation, demonstrated a 92.2% success rate in early trials, as detailed in the journal Command Control & Simulation.
If operationalized, this AI-driven enhancement could boost the torpedoes’ effectiveness, overcoming tactics like decoy flares and acoustic misdirection.
