Russia is preparing to support North Korea in setting up domestic production lines for Iranian-designed Shahed loitering munitions. These kamikaze drones, known for their cost-efficiency and long-range strike capability, have been extensively used by Moscow in its ongoing military campaign against Ukraine.
Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov cautioned that this development could significantly increase regional instability in the Asia-Pacific. With advanced drone technology entering North Korea’s arsenal, tensions between Pyongyang and Seoul could escalate further, triggering new arms races and security concerns among neighboring countries.
North Korea’s growing alignment with Russia has become evident over the past year. In return for military hardware and drone technology, Pyongyang is reportedly offering manpower and resources, possibly even sending soldiers or advisors to aid Russia’s operations in Ukraine. This deepening alliance is raising alarms across the international community.
