Success in modern aerial combat with the F-35 Lightning II demands more than speed—it requires top-tier virtual training, joint exercises, and international teamwork to maintain mission readiness. Recently, HII staff at Nellis U.S. Air Force Base in Nevada collaborated with F-35 pilots from the U.S. Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force during a coalition forces exercise within the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE).
Regarded as the U.S. Air Force’s most hyper-realistic battlespace simulator, the JSE at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center Nellis (JITTC-N) provides an immersive, fully connected synthetic environment for training. HII is a critical contractor for software development, integration, support, and operations of the system.
Hosted by the U.S. Air Force’s 31st Combat Training Squadron (CTS), the exercise aimed to give Royal Australian Air Force pilots realistic F-35 simulator training against contractor adversaries known as Red-Air. Feedback from the exercise helped improve mission performance in the subsequent 29 Test Evaluation Squadron’s Simulation Capabilities Assessment.
