The Portuguese Air Force (FAP) is set to be the inaugural user of Embraer’s A-29N Super Tucano, a light combat aircraft modified to NATO specifications. The first aircraft delivery is expected within this year. The plane will feature advanced SOVERON AR software-defined radios (SDRs) from Rohde & Schwarz, enabling secure communications in complex mission conditions.

The SOVERON AR radio system is designed to function in harsh operational environments while supporting real-time data, voice, and navigation exchange between dispersed units in a network-centric architecture.

Portugal’s A-29Ns will carry up to two R&S®MR6000R transceivers, which support advanced frequency-hopping modes such as HAVE QUICK II and SATURN. The radios are also embedded with the R&S SECOS encryption algorithm, offering both COMSEC and TRANSEC functions for secure communications.
