Lithuania has awarded Poland’s MESKO S.A. a €28 million contract for GROM MANPADS, a move that reinforces the country’s focus on strengthening regional air defence amid ongoing security pressures near NATO’s eastern flank. The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense highlighted the deal as a critical step in improving the nation’s layered air defence capabilities. The GROM, developed by MESKO, is designed to counter low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and drones. Featuring a single-stage 72 mm solid-fuel rocket and an infrared seeker for target tracking, the system reaches speeds up to 650 m/s and offers a maximum range of 5.5 km and an altitude ceiling of 3.5 km. Its 1.35 kg high-explosive warhead provides precise engagement of airborne threats.
