Airbus has reported major progress in the development of its first high-performance SIRTAP drones for the Spanish Armed Forces. Two prototypes have entered the final assembly phase at Airbus’ Getafe facility near Madrid and are set to undergo comprehensive ground and flight testing next year. In 2023, the Spanish Ministry of Defense signed a €495 million ($539 million) contract with Airbus to acquire nine SIRTAP systems, each comprising three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a ground control station.
