India’s DRDO, in collaboration with the Indian Navy, has tested a domestically built Multi-Influence Ground Mine designed to counter stealth ships and submarines.
The 1,000-kilogram sea mine uses sensors to detect acoustic, magnetic, pressure, and low-frequency electric signatures generated by vessels. It runs on a lithium-thionyl chloride battery and can be deployed from ships, submarines, and coastal outposts.
Developed by DRDO’s Naval Science & Technological Laboratory with support from two other research labs, the mine’s production will be handled by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Apollo Microsystems.
