The Australian government has committed AUD 2.12 billion (USD 1.39 billion) to purchase advanced AMRAAM missile variants to boost its airstrike and air defense capabilities.
This procurement follows US approval in April to sell up to 200 units each of the AIM-120C and AIM-120D to Australia.
The AIM-120D-3 will equip RAAF platforms including the F/A-18F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and F-35A Lightning II, while the AIM-120C-8 will be deployed through the NASAMS system.
Australia’s newly formed 10th Brigade will operate NASAMS, enhancing national defense against aerial threats. The acquisition is being made via the US Foreign Military Sales program.
