Germany has outlined plans to acquire Boxer armored fighting vehicles to equip its newly established Medium Forces with essential combat capabilities.

The order will feature Boxer variants fitted with 30mm Remote Control Turrets (RCT30), originally unveiled in 2016 by Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland.

Hartpunkt reports that Berlin’s preliminary budget for the purchase stands at 3.9 billion euros ($4.5 billion), with an initial investment of 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) set aside for early program stages.

Although the total number of Boxers to be procured remains undisclosed, estimates indicate the package could cover up to 148 units.

These vehicles will serve alongside 123 Boxers of the Australian Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) configuration currently being acquired under a separate contract to support Germany’s Heavy Weapon Carrier Infantry.
