As part of efforts to modernize its artillery, Bulgaria is exploring the purchase of the Caesar 155mm self-propelled howitzer as a successor to its 2S1 “Gvozdika” systems. The French artillery platform is being reviewed alongside the IRIS-T air defense system under the EU’s EDIRPA initiative, which promotes joint procurement and provides partial funding reimbursements for member states.
