DARPA, in collaboration with Serco, has completed the initial prototype for its No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) initiative. Designed to operate autonomously without mission systems or human presence, the NOMARS vessels will handle payload transport for the US Navy. The first unit, dubbed “USX Defiant,” will proceed to undergo extensive trials both at the pier and in operational waters.
