Company officials stated in an earnings call that Lockheed Martin expects to reach a deal with the U.S. government before the year ends for the 18th and 19th lots of F-35 fighters. Yet, the delay in finalizing these contracts—and the government’s decision to withhold substantial payments until the newest F-35s are combat-capable—has resulted in losses totaling hundreds of millions for Lockheed.
