Germany has approved the acquisition of the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) to arm its F-35 fleet through a deal with Norway valued at around 6.5 billion Norwegian kroner ($642 million).

The purchase was sanctioned by the German Parliament on June 4, making Germany the fifth nation to adopt the Kongsberg-built weapon after Norway, Japan, Australia, and the US.

The final contract is anticipated to be concluded by mid-2025.

As part of a government-to-government arrangement, Norway will procure the JSMs from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for the German government.

This missile purchase follows the same bilateral structure as Germany’s previous buy of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Block 1A.

It also aligns with the ongoing German-Norwegian development of the next-gen NSM variant, the SuperSonic Strike Missile known as Tyrfing.
