GORE-TEX Labs has unveiled a next-generation PYRAD flame-retardant combat suit built to keep soldiers cooler, safer, and more mobile in environments exceeding 30°C (86°F).
The design uses lightweight, breathable, and stretchable materials that offer flash-flame protection without the rigidity or heat burden typical of traditional flame-resistant fabrics.
Different laminate weights are used across the suit—lighter fabrics in low-impact zones and reinforced materials at the shoulders, elbows, and knees.
Trials with special forces and naval units operating in the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Pacific showed the suit remained protective under plate carriers and harsh terrain, while reducing fatigue and boosting mission performance.
GORE-TEX has also rolled out additional gear, including a new lightweight all-weather jacket for troops deployed in cold and windy climates.
Combat Suit Modernization Trends
Nations worldwide are accelerating efforts to upgrade combat uniforms with better flame resistance, mobility, and climate adaptability.
The Nordic Combat Uniform system, introduced in early 2025, features a layered setup using flame-retardant materials to enhance comfort and safety in harsh environments.
Turkey has joined the modernization push with multifunctional uniforms by Raff Military Textile, integrating fire resistance, water repellence, and insect protection for soldiers in hot and tropical regions.
Industry players such as Crye Precision are contributing as well; its G3.5 Series introduces flame-resistant, moisture-wicking shirts and trousers designed for superior ventilation, movement, and comfort.
