Hanwha Systems has rolled out its first mass-production active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar to support the Republic of Korea Air Force’s KF-21 fighter program.
The unveiling, held at Hanwha’s experimentation hub in Yongin, Gyeonggi, marks a significant milestone in South Korea’s drive to equip its indigenous next-generation jet with advanced avionics.
This development follows a government contract for up to 40 AESA radar units, slated for delivery by 2028, all destined for integration into the KF-21 fleet under construction by Korea Aerospace Industries.
Hanwha’s Yongin facility, opened in 2024, houses a Near-Field Chamber capable of testing four airborne radar systems at once and evaluating key AESA antenna performance parameters.
