Bengaluru-based defense technology startup Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace has introduced India’s first indigenous medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) autonomous combat drone.

The AI-powered FWD Kaal Bhairava boasts an endurance of 30 hours and a range of 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles). Designed for long-range surveillance, precision strikes, and swarm missions, the platform represents India’s growing self-reliance in advanced UAV capabilities.

With 80% locally sourced components, the drone ensures a secure and sanction-proof supply chain. The company has also established an indigenous maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) ecosystem, reducing turnaround times, cutting lifecycle costs, and providing reliable spare parts support.

Beyond the Kaal Bhairava, the firm’s portfolio includes a newly developed loitering munition with a 100 km (62 miles) range and an unmanned bomber aircraft in development, capable of operating up to 800 km (497 miles).
