To support the modernization of its polar cutter fleet, the US Coast Guard has received the MV Aiviq, a commercially available icebreaker provided by Offshore Service Vessels. Acquired under a $125 million contract awarded in November, the ship will ensure continued US presence and operational capability in the Arctic until the new Polar Security Cutters are commissioned in the 2030s.
