Italy’s engineering company Saipem has unveiled an underwater drone intended to play a central role in the Italian Navy’s upcoming mine countermeasure missions. Named Hydrone-D, this hybrid autonomous underwater vehicle (HUAV) can be remotely controlled at depths exceeding 600 meters (1,969 feet). It can carry side-scan sonar systems and up to four explosive charges, enabling it to detect and eliminate concealed naval mines.
