Leonardo has unveiled the Lionfish 30, a next-generation AI-enabled remotely operated naval turret developed under the Italian Navy’s fleet modernization program.
At its center is the ITAR-free X-GUN, a fully electric, dual-feed 30×173mm cannon capable of firing more than 200 ready rounds stored in twin ammunition boxes. The system supports the full spectrum of 30mm ammunition, including the new airburst munitions currently being developed by KNDS.
The turret is equipped with the JANUS-D electro-optical director, which combines a daylight camera, infrared sensor, and laser rangefinder to identify and track targets at ranges of up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
