Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force has inducted the fourth unit of its Taigei-class diesel-electric submarines, the JS Raigei, developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The commissioning comes three years after the class’s namesake vessel, JS Taigei, entered service in March 2022. The Taigei-class fleet is expected to reach its full strength of eight submarines by the 2030s, enhancing the nation’s undersea warfare capabilities.
