The Japanese Ground Self-Defense Forces showcased the enhanced Type 12 missile launcher vehicle for the first time during a major live-fire exercise.
Held at the Higashi-Fuji training grounds in Shizuoka Prefecture, the Fuji Firepower Exercise welcomed 4,000 high school students and their parents to promote military careers.
The launcher is a mobile 8×8 transporter-erector-launcher platform featuring four tubes, part of Japan’s expanding counterstrike strategy.
Mass production started in 2023, with the system set for deployment across seven missile units from Hokkaido to Okinawa beginning in 2025.
