JS Nōmi (MSO-307), the fourth and last ship in the Awaji-class minesweeper series, has been commissioned into the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force at Tsurumi-ki in Yokohama. Built by Japan Marine United Corporation in Kanagawa, the vessel’s construction started in 2021. It is named after Hiroshima’s Nōmi Island, becoming the second Japanese military ship to bear the name, the first being a Mikura-class escort vessel from 1944.
