Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, has introduced the Nomad, a new family of next-generation VTOL drones that combine the flight traits of helicopters and airplanes. The drones incorporate MATRIX autonomy, an open-system framework jointly developed with DARPA, designed for use on both rotary-wing and fixed-wing platforms. Featuring a twin-proprotor configuration, the Nomad can take off and land vertically, hover in place, and cruise efficiently over extended distances, merging agility with high-speed performance.
