Lockheed Martin has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with AED Cluster Portugal to explore local industrial participation in the F-35 program. Though Portugal has not committed to acquiring the aircraft, the agreement opens the door for Portuguese companies to join the global F-35 supply ecosystem.
AED Cluster Portugal, a non-profit organization representing over 140 aerospace, defense, and security companies, will identify domestic firms with capabilities in precision engineering, systems integration, electronics, and other defense-related technologies to support the program.
The deal positions AED as an intermediary between Lockheed and potential suppliers, enabling Portugal to benefit economically and technologically should the government later choose to procure the fifth-generation stealth fighter.
