The US Coast Guard has awarded a $125 million contract to Offshore Service Vessels LLC to supply a commercially available icebreaker for polar region missions. As part of the agreement, the Louisiana-based maritime transportation company will transfer and reactivate its anchor-handling tug supply vessel, the MV Aiviq, along with necessary modifications, technical documentation, spare parts, certifications, and training. The vessel’s condition and any additional requirements will be assessed to ensure it reaches full operational capability upon delivery.
