Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has introduced a new maritime research ship for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force at its Shimonoseki facility in Yamaguchi.
Designated JS Akashi (AGS-5107), the vessel will serve as a key platform for mapping ocean floors, analyzing sea temperatures, and examining maritime resources for both naval and scientific use.
The ship is named after Akashi, a coastal city in Hyogo Prefecture known for its strategic role in producing defense equipment, including aircraft, during WWII.
