British unmanned systems developer MSubs has officially launched the Royal Navy’s future Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (XLAUV) at Turnchapel Wharf in Plymouth. The development forms part of the UK Ministry of Defence’s Cetus Project, which aims to establish a fleet of uncrewed submarines to advance the nation’s undersea warfare capabilities. Upon deployment, these autonomous vessels will operate independently to protect vital national infrastructure and oversee sub-surface operations across UK maritime zones.
