The Saudi Ministry of Defence signed an agreement with Spanish shipyard Navantia on December 11, 2024, in Riyadh to procure three more Avante 2200 corvettes, expanding the current fleet of five in Royal Saudi Naval Forces service. The first ship’s construction will begin soon, with all three expected to be delivered by 2028. The initial corvette will be built in Spain, while the remaining two will be constructed in Saudi Arabia, where SAMINavantia—a partnership between Navantia and Saudi Arabian Military Industries—will install and test the Hazem combat system.
