Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace (FWDA), an Indian startup, has unveiled its FWD-LM01 loitering munition, capable of striking targets up to 100 kilometers (62 miles) away, at a defense aviation show in Paris.
The FWD-LM01 is part of FWDA’s series of delta-wing kamikaze drones designed for extended-range missions. As reported by The Economic Times, the drone is lightweight, man-portable, and can be quickly assembled in under five minutes without specialized equipment.
The drone has a wingspan of 2 meters (7 feet), a takeoff weight of 6 kilograms (13 pounds), and can fly for 1.5 hours. It reaches altitudes of up to 17,000 feet (5,182 meters) and can carry up to 2 kilograms (4 pounds) of explosives.
It integrates an electro-optical infrared sensor for real-time surveillance and employs AI-powered systems for autonomous flight and precision targeting.
