The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) has successfully completed a major modernization of its NH90 helicopter fleet, enhancing operational efficiency through both software improvements and upgraded onboard systems at Base Ohakea.

One key enhancement includes refining identification systems, enabling NH90 helicopters to better interact with allied forces using friend-or-foe airborne tracking tools. Additionally, the upgrade ensures compliance with New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority requirements for ADS-B OUT, which broadcasts aircraft location for safety and tracking.

Another notable development is improved automated flight control, now allowing the NH90s to hover precisely to ground level, improving landing accuracy from the previous limit of 15 feet (5 meters).
