French defense tech startup Harmattan AI has been awarded a contract by the country’s procurement agency DGA to provide 1,000 AI-enabled micro combat drones to the French Army.
Deliveries are scheduled from October through December as part of a multi-million-dollar agreement.
The compact quadcopters—developed in-house by Harmattan AI—will be used for soldier training and operational readiness, including participation in the Orion 2026 joint military exercise. Weighing 1.8 kilograms (4 pounds), the drones are designed to be autonomous, adaptable, and combat-ready.
They offer a 2-kilometer (1.24-mile) operational range, 40-minute endurance, and come equipped with an electro-optical camera, with optional infrared capability.
