At the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT announced an expanded collaboration to advance ground-based air defence capabilities. The partnership will build on existing systems already in production, which can be delivered on short notice, and is aimed at providing world-class defence solutions capable of countering emerging aerial threats. Leveraging software-defined architectures and the latest technologies, these systems will remain effective against the rapidly evolving threat landscape.

The nature of air attacks has become significantly more complex. In addition to conventional aircraft and helicopters, today’s air defence must now confront cruise missiles, drones, supersonic and hypersonic missiles, and particularly ballistic missile threats. Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT plan to address these challenges by optimizing how their weapon and sensor systems work together.

The companies have a long-standing collaboration history, most notably in the IRIS-T SLM medium-range system, which integrates Airbus’s IBMS-FC battle management software and HENSOLDT’s radar systems, already fielded and in full production.

Moving forward, Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT will focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence-driven target recognition within the TRML-4D fire-control radar, advanced sensor data fusion, AI-enhanced environmental awareness, mission planning, and simulation methodologies to drive the future development of the IRIS-T SLM and related air defence solutions.
