Filipino engineers at Mindanao State University are building a prototype of a unique naval weapon system—a “kamikaze drone” cleverly disguised as a civilian watercraft.
The concept model, called the Philippine Autonomous Littoral Interdiction Drone (Palid), was publicly revealed for the first time at the recent Self-Reliance Defense Posture (SRDP) summit organized by the Philippine Navy in Manila.
Designed as an unmanned surface vessel (USV), the Palid has a displacement of up to 650 kilograms (1,433 pounds) and can achieve speeds of 40 knots (74 kilometers or 46 miles per hour).
