Poland’s Navy has introduced its first signals intelligence (SIGINT) vessel from a pair being built by Saab of Sweden. Named ORP Jerzy Różycki, in honor of the mathematician who cracked the German Enigma code, the ship will conduct maritime electronic intelligence collection and hydroacoustic reconnaissance to counter underwater threats from manned and unmanned sources. The Delfin program aims to replace Poland’s outdated Project 863 Moma-class reconnaissance ships, in service since the 1970s. Saab was awarded a €620 million ($730 million) contract in November 2022, with both ships slated for delivery by 2027. Construction of the lead vessel began in April 2023, and the second ship’s assembly started in November 2023 at the Remontowa Shipbuilding yard in Gdansk.
