The Russian Navy has announced plans to upgrade its Ivan Gren-class landing ships with a new variant, Project 117113 Cayman. Developed by the Nevskoye Design Bureau under the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), the Cayman was unveiled at the “Fleet-2024” International Maritime Defense Show in Kronstadt. This updated design is intended to improve the Navy’s capabilities in amphibious operations, including troop deployment, combat vehicle transport, and cargo delivery. The new variant incorporates operational insights and addresses shortcomings identified in previous models.
