The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has officially launched its first Victory-class Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV) at ST Engineering’s Benoi Shipyard, marking a key milestone in the nation’s naval modernization effort.

Named after its class, the future RSS Victory (88) is the first of six ships and will now undergo outfitting, systems integration, and sea trials, while its crew begins operational training.

Designed with frigate-level capabilities, the MRCV serves as a mothership for uncrewed aerial, surface, and underwater systems. It will replace the current Victory-class missile corvettes, retaining their historic names and pennant numbers in tribute to their service.

Under a March 2023 contract, ST Engineering is constructing all six vessels — Victory (88), Valour (89), Vigilance (90), Valiant (91), Vigour (92), and Vengeance (93) — in partnership with DSTA, DSO, and other Defence Technology Community stakeholders.

At 150 meters long with an 8,000-ton displacement, the MRCV is Singapore’s largest and most sophisticated warship to date. It can operate for over 21 days, reach speeds above 22 knots, and cover 7,000 nautical miles per mission.

The vessel integrates DSTA’s combat management system, Thales radar, Safran electro-optical sensors, and weaponry such as the STRALES 76mm gun, MK30-C 30mm stations, and Aster and Mica VL surface-to-air missiles.

With a crew of under 100, the MRCV employs advanced automation to enhance efficiency and safety. Its modular layout supports up to eight mission modules for diverse operations, including humanitarian and disaster relief, and features standard container compatibility for rapid reconfiguration.

A high-voltage power system and lightweight composite superstructure future-proof the design for next-generation naval technologies.
