Indra of Spain and Tata Advanced Systems of India have successfully commissioned the first Lanza-N naval radar aboard an Indian Navy vessel.

The 3D long-range radar, designed for air defense and anti-missile operations, was fully integrated into the ship’s combat systems and validated in sea trials against diverse air and naval targets.

As part of the collaboration, Tata has opened a dedicated radar assembly, integration, and testing facility in Karnataka to support local production and sustainment.

The deployment is the first step in a wider program to equip Indian Navy frigates, destroyers, and carriers with the Lanza-N.

The agreement, signed in 2020 under a technology transfer framework, calls for Indra to provide three complete radars and key components for 20 more units, which Tata will assemble and integrate domestically.

The Lanza-N system employs a focused pencil-beam signal for precise tracking and altitude determination, even in contested electronic environments. With three independently controllable channels, it ensures multi-target tracking, interference filtering, and robust air surveillance out to 254 nautical miles (470 km).
