The Indian Air Force (IAF), working jointly with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has embarked on a program to retrofit six Su-30 MKI aircraft with the indigenously developed Astra missile system. This move represents a strategic advancement in India’s efforts toward defense self-sufficiency. The integration of Astra BVRAAMs, capable of striking aerial targets at long distances, will greatly enhance the operational reach and firepower of the Su-30 MKI, a key asset in the IAF’s combat arsenal.
