Sweden has awarded a contract to Finnish small arms manufacturer Sako to supply an additional 22,500 Automatkarbin 24 (AK 24) assault rifles for its armed forces. The purchase falls under a bilateral agreement signed with Finland in March 2021 aimed at jointly modernizing their firearms to meet evolving battlefield requirements. The initial acquisition of these automatic rifles was announced by both nations in March 2023.
