The Republic of Korea is modernizing over 30 of its UH/HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters under a multibillion-won program due for completion by 2029. Korean Air, LIG Nex1, and Collins Aerospace are handling the upgrades, which include digital multi-function cockpits, electronic navigation, and survival systems such as radar warning receivers. The helicopters will also gain automatic hover and obstacle detection technologies, reducing pilot workload and boosting mission effectiveness. The project, valued at $715 million, emphasizes domestic R&D and aims to create over 50 new aerospace components, reinforcing Korea’s military aviation and defense industry base.
