The US State Department has officially approved a foreign military sale worth $325 million to bolster the operational readiness of Kuwait’s M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks. The support deal is designed to help Kuwait maintain a high state of combat readiness for both its legacy M1A2 tanks and the newer M1A2K variants, which offer enhanced targeting and protection systems.

This package includes a wide array of services and materials such as repair and replacement parts, technical manuals, tool kits, test equipment, and field service support, ensuring that Kuwait’s armored units can remain effective in regional security operations. It also includes program management support and engineering assistance to handle both routine maintenance and unexpected failures.

General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), the original manufacturer of the Abrams tank, will act as the primary contractor for the project. The proposed sale does not require an offset agreement, and there will be no adverse impact on US military readiness. Kuwait currently operates approximately 218 Abrams tanks, playing a critical role in its ground force capabilities.
