US Army Reserve troops have started operating SpaceX’s Starshield communications system to boost battlefield decision-making capabilities. The laser-powered system provides high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity anywhere in the world, delivering upload speeds of 300–500 Mbps and latency as low as 25 milliseconds. “It’s a five-terabyte global plan that we use to activate our Starlinks and essentially convert them into Starshields,” explained an Army captain.
