NORAD and USNORTHCOM have begun “Falcon Peak,” a large-scale counter-unmanned aerial systems exercise to advance U.S. base defenses against small drone threats. Hosted at Eglin Air Force Base through Sept. 19, 2025, the event is one of the most comprehensive counter-drone trials ever conducted domestically. The drills simulate hostile UAV incursions with daily launches from Santa Rosa Island, enabling layered defense systems—radars, jammers, interceptors, and directed-energy weapons—to be tested under combat-like conditions. To ensure safety, the 96th Test Wing has restricted nearby maritime zones and broadcast advisories. Falcon Peak reflects growing urgency as drones proliferate worldwide, posing risks to U.S. military bases both at home and abroad.
