The US Navy has officially commissioned the USS Iowa (SSN 797), its 24th Virginia-class fast attack submarine, during a ceremony at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. The vessel was delivered in January under a 2014 contract worth nearly $18 billion for nine submarines in the class.
