Airbus Helicopters has officially handed over the first two NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopters (MSPT variant) to the Spanish Navy. These helicopters mark the initial deliveries from a seven-aircraft order placed under the second phase of Spain’s broader NH90 acquisition program, which encompasses a total of 23 helicopters.
The MSPT version is specifically designed for amphibious and maritime operations, with enhancements such as naval-grade communication systems, strengthened landing gear, and rotor components capable of automatic folding for shipboard storage. Each helicopter can transport up to 20 fully equipped soldiers or a light tactical vehicle. The configuration supports single-pilot functionality even in low-visibility environments, increasing mission versatility. This delivery completes the integration of NH90s across all three branches of Spain’s military—Army, Air and Space Force, and Navy. The expansion aligns with Spain’s National Helicopter Plan and a recent agreement signed with Airbus in May.
