Raytheon and Northrop Grumman have completed successful testing of new rocket motors for the US Army’s Next-Generation Short-Range Interceptor (NGSRI), set to replace the Stinger missile.
The motors use Highly Loaded Grain (HLG) propellant, which burns more efficiently and extends the interceptor’s speed and engagement distance. The system can be deployed from vehicles, tripods, or carried on the shoulder.
Four test rounds were completed, with the final including three static fires in different environments and a flight demo. More flight evaluations are scheduled. Earlier this year, Raytheon confirmed full testing of the interceptor’s seeker, propulsion, launcher, and warhead.
